Dubai Metro Zones Explained

Dubai Metro is divided into fare zones. The more zones your journey crosses, the higher the fare. Most tourist attractions — Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates, Gold Souq — sit in Zone 1, making single-zone trips the most common.

Central stations: Union, BurJuman, Burj Khalifa / Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates, DMCC, World Trade Centre, Financial Centre, Gold Souq, Al Rigga, Healthcare City.
🔵 Zone 2
Outer corridor: Deira City Centre, Ibn Battuta, Dubai Internet City, Onpassive, Equiti, Mashreq, Al Khail, Sobha Realty, Etisalat by e&, Al Qusais.
🟢 Zone 3
Suburbs & Route 2020: Centrepoint, UAE Exchange, Jebel Ali, Ibn Battuta, Al Furjan, Discovery Gardens, Expo City Dubai.

A single-zone journey costs AED 3.00 (Silver). A two-zone journey costs AED 5.00. A three-zone journey (e.g. airport to Expo) is AED 7.50.

Dubai Metro operates 05:00 to midnight (00:00) Monday to Thursday and Saturday to Sunday. On Fridays the service starts late at 10:00 and runs until 01:00. Trains run every 3–5 minutes at peak times and every 7–10 minutes off-peak.
Dubai Metro fares are zone-based: AED 3.00 for 1 zone, AED 5.00 for 2 zones, and AED 7.50 for 3 zones on a Silver Nol Card. Gold Class doubles the fare. A daily cap of AED 20.00 (Silver) protects frequent travellers. Airport stations carry an additional AED 5.00 surcharge.
The Nol Card is Dubai's transit smart card — required for the metro, buses, trams, water buses, and Dubai Ferry. Four types exist: Red (anonymous, paper), Silver (refillable, AED 25), Gold (Gold Class access, AED 25), and Blue (personalised, AED 70). Buy them at any station's vending machines or customer service counter, or via the RTA Nol Pay app.
The Red Line is the main 52 km route from Centrepoint (Rashidiya) to UAE Exchange, plus the Route 2020 branch to Expo City. It covers the airport, Downtown Dubai, Sheikh Zayed Road, Marina, and JLT. The Green Line is a 22 km loop through northern Deira from Etisalat by e& to Creek, serving Gold Souq, Baniyas Square, and Healthcare City. Both lines interchange at Union and BurJuman.
Yes. The Red Line serves both terminals: Terminal 1 (R14) and Terminal 3 (R13). An AED 5 surcharge applies on top of the standard zonal fare. The first metro to the airport departs at 05:00 — for earlier flights, take a taxi as the metro does not run overnight.
Burj Khalifa / Dubai Mall Metro Station (R25) on the Red Line is the closest. A covered, air-conditioned walkway connects the station directly to The Dubai Mall, with the Burj Khalifa around 500 metres away. The free Dubai Mall shuttle bus also runs every 10 minutes between the station exit and the mall's Fashion Avenue entrance.
