About Stadium Metro Station

Stadium Metro Station (G15) is a Green Line station in the Al Wasl area of Dubai, named for the Dubai International Cricket Stadium located approximately 400 metres from the exit. The station is in Nol Zone 2, making the Silver Nol Card fare AED 5.00 from Zone 1 stations and applying the Zone 2 tier to most journeys across the wider network. It sits on the northern section of the Green Line arc, between Al Qiyadah toward Etisalat and Abu Hail toward Union.

Stadium Metro Station opened in September 2011 as part of the Green Line launch. The surrounding Al Wasl district is a low-to-mid density area with a mix of residential buildings, community parks, and sports infrastructure. The station takes its name from the cluster of sporting venues — the cricket ground, Al Nasr Sports Club, and the Ittihad Park green space — that make this one of the few metro stations in Dubai serving dedicated sports and recreation destinations.

The station sits close to the intersection of Al Wasl Road and the streets leading into the sports district. Al Mulla Plaza, a community shopping centre, is about 300 metres away. Ittihad Park at 400 metres is a public green space particularly popular during the cooler months from October to April. Al Nasr Sports Club at 600 metres offers football facilities, a public swimming pool and multi-sport courts that residents can access for a walk-in fee.

From Stadium Metro Station, Al Qiyadah is 2 minutes north toward Etisalat, Abu Hail is approximately 5 minutes in the same direction, Union Station (major Red/Green interchange) is about 10 minutes, and BurJuman is around 18 minutes south. The Zone 2 Silver Nol Card fare of AED 5.00 applies to journeys to Zone 1 stations such as Union, Gold Souq, BurJuman and all stations south through Bur Dubai.

Stadium Metro Station is used primarily by sports fans attending cricket and football matches, local residents of Al Wasl and Oud Metha, and visitors to Ittihad Park and Al Nasr Club. On match days — particularly IPL cricket or UAE international fixtures — boarding queues at the station can be significant; arriving at least 90 minutes before the event and using the Nol Card tap-and-go rather than purchasing a ticket at the machine will save time. Bus routes 5, 52 and C8 provide connections beyond the metro coverage area.

About Al Wasl — Stadium Metro Station Area

Al Wasl is a primarily residential district wedged between Deira to the north and Oud Metha to the south, with a character defined more by sports facilities and community parks than by shopping malls or hotels. Dubai International Cricket Stadium — the area's main draw — hosts IPL franchise matches each spring and international fixtures throughout the cricket season. On match days the neighbourhood fills with spectators, and the Stadium Metro Station becomes one of the busiest boarding points on the northern Green Line.

Ittihad Park at 400 metres is a well-maintained public green space with walking tracks, shaded seating areas and open lawns. It is most pleasant from October to April when temperatures drop below 30°C; summer visits are only comfortable in the early mornings before 08:00. Al Nasr Sports Club at 600 metres has a public swimming pool and football pitches available to non-members for a walk-in fee, making it a practical option for visitors wanting sport rather than sightseeing. Al Mulla Plaza at 300 metres covers everyday shopping and dining needs.

For cricket match days, the key practical tip is to arrive at Stadium Metro Station early — queues at the exit can stretch back to the platform during post-match dispersal. The Zone 2 Nol Card fare of AED 5.00 Silver applies from most central Dubai stations. Bus routes 5 and 52 serve Al Wasl Road and connect to broader Deira, while C8 offers a circular link to adjacent neighbourhoods. The last metro toward Etisalat departs around midnight on weekdays.

One of the UAE's premier cricket venues, seating around 25,000 spectators and hosting IPL franchises each spring plus international ODI and T20 fixtures. How to Use Stadium Metro Station Metro Station

Here is a straightforward guide to entering, navigating, and exiting Stadium Metro Station Station whether you are a first-time visitor or a regular commuter.

  1. Look for the Dubai Metro logo (red M on white background) on street signage. Stadium Metro Station has multiple exits — check which exit is closest to your destination before entering. Exit maps are displayed at the top of the stairs and beside the gates.

  2. Tap your Silver or Gold Nol Card on the reader at the entrance gate. The gate will display your remaining balance. If your balance is below AED 3.00 the gate will not open — top up at the vending machines beside the gates before entering.

  3. Check the overhead direction signs on the platform. On the Red Line trains run towards Centrepoint (Rashidiya) in one direction and towards UAE Exchange / Expo City in the other. On the Green Line trains run towards Etisalat by e& or towards Creek. Confirm your direction on the station map before the train arrives.

  4. Stand behind the yellow safety line until the train stops and doors open. Let passengers exit first then board. Tap your Nol Card at the exit gates at your destination — forgetting to tap out results in the maximum fare being charged for that journey.

Nol Card tip: If you are visiting Dubai for more than 2 days a Silver Nol Card (AED 25 including AED 19 travel credit) saves money compared to buying individual paper tickets. It works on metro, bus, tram, and water bus across all of Dubai. Available at every metro station vending machine.
