Fare FAQ
Dubai Metro fares use a zone-based system with a Nol Card. Silver class: AED 3.00 for 1 zone, AED 5.00 for 2 zones, AED 7.50 for 3 zones. Gold class doubles the fare. An AED 5.00 airport surcharge applies when travelling to or from Airport Terminal 1 or Terminal 3.
The daily spending cap is AED 20.00 for Silver Nol Card and AED 40.00 for Gold Class. Once you hit the cap, all subsequent metro journeys that day are free. The cap resets at midnight each day.
Yes. AED 5.00 is added whenever you board or alight at Airport Terminal 1 (R14) or Airport Terminal 3 (R13). This is on top of the standard zone fare, and also applies when the airport is the origin. Red Nol (paper card) charges the same surcharge.
The monthly cap is AED 300.00 for Silver Nol Card and AED 600.00 for Gold Class. Once reached, all metro journeys for the rest of that calendar month are free. For regular commuters using the metro twice a day on working days, the monthly cap is usually hit within the first 20–22 working days of the month.
Dubai Metro has 3 Nol Card fare zones. Zone 1 covers central Dubai including the airport, Deira, BurDubai, Downtown, and Business Bay. Zone 2 covers mid-city areas like Al Quoz, Dubai Marina, and JLT. Zone 3 covers outer areas including Jabal Ali, UAE Exchange, and the entire Route 2020 branch to Expo City Dubai.
Yes. A Red Nol (single-use paper card) works on the metro but charges higher fares — approximately AED 2 more per journey compared to a Silver Nol Card. For regular travel, a Silver Nol card (one-time cost of AED 25) pays for itself after about 13 journeys. Red Nol cannot be used in the Gold Class carriage.
