About the Station

Burj Khalifa Dubai Mall Metro Station (R25) is on the Red Line in Nol Zone 1, elevated on Sheikh Zayed Road at the entrance to Downtown Dubai, the most visited urban district on earth. The station gives direct rail access to the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building at 828 metres, The Dubai Mall, the world's largest shopping mall by total area, and The Dubai Fountain, the world's largest choreographed fountain, all within a short walk of the station exit. A free RTA shuttle bus also runs between the station and Dubai Mall's Fashion Avenue entrance every 10 minutes.

The station opened in September 2010, a year after the main Red Line, once the Downtown extension was completed. It quickly became one of the busiest stations on the network, especially on weekends and during events like New Year's Eve, when the Burj Khalifa fireworks and fountain shows draw hundreds of thousands of visitors. On those evenings the metro is often the only practical way in, since road access to Downtown is restricted and taxi demand outpaces supply.

The station sits on Sheikh Zayed Road next to the Financial Centre district, with the Emaar Square office complex directly across the road.

From Burj Khalifa Dubai Mall Metro Station, onward connections are quick. Financial Centre and DIFC are one stop south, about 4 minutes away. Business Bay is two stops south, about 8 minutes away. Airport Terminal 3 is around 22 minutes northeast with no changes needed. For Dubai Marina and JBR, take the Red Line southwest to DMCC or Sobha Realty, around 30 minutes away.

The Burj Khalifa, at 828 metres, is reached by walking through Dubai Mall to the lower ground floor, then through the Burj Khalifa Boulevard to the base lobby. The At the Top observation decks on floors 124 and 125, and the premium floor 148, require advance tickets, best booked at burjkhalifa.ae well ahead during peak season, from October to April. Same day walk up tickets are available but cost significantly more. The Armani Hotel and Armani/Amal restaurant are also at the base, for fine dining without needing an observation deck ticket.

Each show lasts about 3 to 5 minutes, and for anyone taking the metro to Downtown Dubai, this is one of the most popular free evening activities in the city.

It hosts international opera, ballet, theatre, concerts, and comedy performances year round. It sits about 560 metres from the metro station exit via the Burj Khalifa Boulevard promenade, a 12 minute walk. Tickets are available at dubaiopera.com and range from AED 150 for gallery seats to AED 2,000 and up for premium stalls. The rooftop Veranda restaurant and cafe are open before performances.

About Downtown Dubai

Downtown Dubai is an Emaar Properties development covering about 2 square kilometres around the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Fountain. Built from scratch in the 2000s, it contains the Burj Khalifa, The Dubai Mall, Souk Al Bahar, Dubai Opera, and hotel brands including Address and Vida, alongside hundreds of residential towers. It is Dubai's tourism and entertainment centre, and hosts one of the world's most watched New Year's Eve fireworks broadcasts.

The area around the station on Sheikh Zayed Road includes several hotel towers, among them the Address Boulevard and the Vida Downtown. The Burj Khalifa base and the Dubai Fountain promenade are reached through the Dubai Mall walkway or the Souk Al Bahar bridge. Dining ranges from budget food courts inside Dubai Mall to fine dining at the Armani Hotel, at the base of the Burj Khalifa.

Getting to Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa

This station has a direct covered connection to Dubai Mall, making it the easiest and most affordable way to reach the destination. Here is the step by step route.

  1. Tap your Nol Card at the exit gates and follow the overhead signs for Dubai Mall. There are multiple exits at this station, so make sure you follow the signs for the mall entrance rather than the street exits.

  2. A covered air-conditioned walkway or bridge connects directly to the mall entrance. No outdoor walking is required. The link is accessible at all hours the metro operates and is suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

  3. The walkway leads you directly into Dubai Mall. From here all mall facilities, restaurants, and attractions are accessible. Walk time from the metro gates to inside the mall is about 3 to 6 minutes.

  4. To return to the metro, follow the Metro Station signs inside the mall. Last trains depart at around midnight Sunday to Thursday and Saturday, and at 1 am on Fridays. Check the RTA Dubai app for the next departure time before leaving the mall.

Weekend tip. Parking here is extremely limited on Friday and Saturday evenings. The metro is the better way to visit, since it is faster, cheaper, and avoids the parking stress entirely. A Silver Nol Card journey from most parts of Dubai costs AED 3.00 to 6.50.

Routes X28 and X29 serve Deira and the airport area. Route 27 serves Business Bay. The free Dubai Mall shuttle bus runs from the metro station every 10 minutes to the Fashion Avenue entrance.

Route X28 is an express service connecting Business Bay and Downtown to Sharjah's central bus stations, useful for commuters coming from Sharjah. Route X29 runs from the airport area through Deira to Downtown, serving travellers who prefer not to take the metro from the airport. Route 27 links Business Bay's canal district to Downtown along Sheikh Zayed Road. The free RTA shuttle bus between the metro exit and Dubai Mall runs every 10 minutes until the mall closes.
