About Burj Khalifa Dubai Mall Metro Station — Red Line

Burj Khalifa Dubai Mall metro station (R25) is on the Red Line in Nol Zone 1, elevated on Sheikh Zayed Road at the entrance to Downtown Dubai — the most-visited urban district on earth. The station gives direct rail access to the Burj Khalifa (828 metres, world's tallest building), The Dubai Mall (world's largest shopping mall by total area), and The Dubai Fountain (world's largest choreographed fountain) — all within a 10-minute walk of the station exit. A free RTA shuttle bus also operates between the station and Dubai Mall's Fashion Avenue entrance every 10 minutes.

The station opened in September 2010 — a year after the main Red Line, when the Downtown extension was completed. It quickly became one of the busiest stations on the entire metro network, particularly on weekends and during events like New Year's Eve, when the Burj Khalifa fireworks and fountain shows draw hundreds of thousands of visitors. On those peak evenings, the metro to burj khalifa is the only practical option as road access to Downtown is restricted and taxi demand exceeds supply.

The station is on Sheikh Zayed Road adjacent to the Financial Centre district. The Emaar Square office complex is directly across the road. Dubai Opera — the dhow-shaped performing arts venue — is approximately 800 metres east via the Dubai Mall promenade. The Souk Al Bahar, a traditional-style shopping arcade overlooking the fountain, is 500 metres away. Dubai Design District (d3) is 3 kilometres east via the water canal.

From the dubai mall metro station, key metro connections are fast: Financial Centre/DIFC is one stop south (4 minutes); Business Bay is two stops south (8 minutes); Airport Terminal 3 is approximately 22 minutes northeast with no changes. For the Marina and JBR, take the Red Line southwest to DMCC or Sobha Realty (approximately 30 minutes). The Dubai Tram is not directly connected but can be reached via bus or taxi from the Marina stations.

Practical advice for the burj khalifa metro red line connection: use the shuttle bus for the Dubai Mall — walking from the metro exit to the mall entrance takes 10–15 minutes across a long footbridge and parking areas. The shuttle drops you at Fashion Avenue, close to the Burj Khalifa base and the fountain. On evenings with fountain shows (18:00 and every 30 minutes until midnight), the area around the fountain promenade is very crowded; arrive early for a promenade position or view from a restaurant terrace above.

About Downtown Dubai — Metro Burj Khalifa Area

Downtown Dubai is an Emaar Properties masterplan development covering approximately 2 square kilometres around the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Fountain. The district was built from scratch in the 2000s and contains the Burj Khalifa, The Dubai Mall, Souk Al Bahar, Dubai Opera, Address and Vida hotel brands, and hundreds of residential towers. It is the tourism and entertainment centre of Dubai and hosts the world's most-watched New Year's Eve fireworks broadcast.

The area around the metro to downtown dubai station on Sheikh Zayed Road contains the Emaar office complex and several hotel towers including the Address Boulevard and the Vida Downtown. The Burj Khalifa base and the Dubai Fountain promenade are accessed via the Dubai Mall walkway or the Souk Al Bahar bridge. Dining options range from budget food courts inside Dubai Mall to multi-starred restaurants inside the Armani Hotel at the base of the Burj Khalifa.

Practical tips: book Burj Khalifa At the Top tickets in advance at burjkhalifa.ae — walk-up tickets are significantly more expensive and often unavailable during peak season. The Dubai Fountain shows at 18:00 and 18:30 are the least crowded; the 20:00–21:00 shows draw the largest crowds. The Dubai Mall closes at midnight Sunday to Wednesday and 01:00 Thursday to Saturday. During Ramadan and New Year, special crowd management measures are in place — check RTA announcements for adjusted metro hours, as Dubai metro burj khalifa services typically run late into the night.
