Red Line — Frequently Asked Questions
The Red Line operates Sunday to Wednesday from 05:00 to 00:00 (midnight), Thursday from 05:00 to 01:00, Friday from 10:00 to 01:00 (late opening due to Jumu'ah prayers), and Saturday from 05:00 to 01:00. Airport stations (R13 and R14) maintain these hours but please check RTA's official app for any timetable changes during public holidays.
Fares depend on the number of zones crossed. A single journey within Zone 1 costs AED 3.00 with a Nol card. Crossing into Zone 2 costs AED 5.00, and Zone 3 costs AED 7.50. A standard Nol Silver card costs AED 25 (including AED 19 credit). Nol Red (single-trip) tickets are also available at slightly higher per-journey rates. Children under 5 and passengers under 90 cm travel free.
Yes. An airport surcharge of AED 5.00 is added to your fare whenever you board or alight at Airport Terminal 3 (R13) or Airport Terminal 1 (R14). This applies on top of the normal zone-based fare and is automatically deducted from your Nol card. Make sure your card has sufficient balance before travelling to or from the airport.
Take any Red Line train towards UAE Exchange and change at SOBHA REALTY station (R36) for the Route 2020 branch. Route 2020 trains run from SOBHA REALTY through The Gardens (R70), Discovery Gardens (R71), Al Furjan (R72), Jumeirah Golf Estates (R73), Dubai Investment Park (R74), and terminate at Expo 2020 / Expo City Dubai (R76). Journey time from Union station is approximately 30–35 minutes. The branch operates on the same Nol fare zones (Zone 3 applies for most Route 2020 stations).
There are two interchange stations connecting the Red and Green Lines. Union (R18/G20) is the primary interchange, located in Deira at the junction of Omar Bin Al Khattab and Al Ittihad Roads. BurJuman (R19/G26) is the second interchange, located in Bur Dubai beneath the BurJuman Centre mall. At both stations, cross-platform transfer is free within a single journey — simply follow the interchange signs and tap your Nol card on the gate when exiting to the other line platform.
