How does the Dubai Metro daily cap work?

Each time you tap your Nol Card to board the metro, the fare is deducted from your card balance. The RTA system tracks your total spending for the day. When the total reaches AED 20 (Silver) or AED 40 (Gold), no more fare is deducted — you simply tap in and out as normal, but your balance does not decrease. The cap resets at midnight each day.

Does the airport surcharge count toward the daily cap?

Yes. The AED 5.00 airport surcharge is charged on top of the zone fare and both amounts count toward the daily cap. So a Zone 1 journey from the airport costs AED 8.00 Silver (AED 3 zone + AED 5 surcharge), and that full AED 8.00 counts toward your AED 20 daily cap.

Is there a monthly cap on the Dubai Metro?

Yes. The monthly cap is AED 300 for Silver Nol and AED 600 for Gold Class. It works the same way as the daily cap — once your monthly total spending reaches this amount, all metro journeys for the rest of that calendar month are free.

Does the Nol Card daily cap apply to buses too?

The Nol Card is used across all RTA services including metro, bus, tram, water bus, and ferry. However, the daily cap of AED 20 / AED 40 applies to metro journeys specifically. Bus, tram, and other services have separate fare structures and their own cap considerations.
