About GGICO Metro Station

GGICO metro station (R15) is a Red Line station in Zone 1, located in the Al Garhoud district between Dubai International Airport Terminal 1 (R14) and Deira City Centre (R16). The station takes its name from the Gulf General Investment Company, whose headquarters are in the immediate vicinity. Al Garhoud is one of Dubai's established mixed-use residential and commercial areas, sitting directly opposite the Dubai Creek and serving as a gateway between the airport corridor and the central city.

The ggico metro dubai station opened in September 2009 as part of the original Red Line network. It serves a diverse daily ridership: hotel guests at the Grand Hyatt and nearby Millennium properties; residents of the Al Garhoud villa and apartment community; workers in the commercial towers along Airport Road (E11); and visitors arriving from the airport at T1 or T3 who stop one or two stations short to reach Garhoud or Wafi Mall. The station is elevated and operates with standard Red Line frequency — every 3–4 minutes during peak hours and 7–10 minutes off-peak.

The station is positioned on the elevated track above Airport Road (E11). Wafi Mall — the distinctive Egyptian-themed luxury mall — is approximately 400 metres on foot across a covered pedestrian bridge from the station. The Grand Hyatt Dubai, one of Dubai's largest resort hotels, is 300 metres away. Garhoud Park, a public green space running alongside Dubai Creek, is 600 metres. The Dubai Tennis Stadium, home to the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships each February, is 700 metres from the exit — making this the best metro access for the annual tennis event.

From ggico metro station, four important destinations are reachable: Dubai International Airport T1 (R14, 1 stop, approximately 3 minutes) for Terminal 1 departures and arrivals; Deira City Centre (R16, 1 stop in the other direction, approximately 3 minutes) for shopping at the mall and Port Saeed area; BurJuman interchange (R20, 5 stops toward Union, approximately 12 minutes) for Green Line connections; and Downtown Dubai / Burj Khalifa (R25, 10 stops toward Expo, approximately 24 minutes). All from Zone 1 with Zone 1 fares applying.

This station primarily serves hotel guests, airport transit passengers, and Garhoud residents. For first-time visitors, the most valuable tip is that the metro station al garhoud sits right between the two airport terminals (T3 at R13, T1 at R14) — meaning it is always just 1–2 stops from any airport arrival. Wafi Mall's covered walkway from the station is particularly useful in summer. The Hamarain Centre, a mid-range mall on Airport Road, is approximately 500 metres and provides daily essentials. The ggico dubai metro red line is the first Red Line station after the airport zone, so Zone 1 fares apply on all journeys from here toward the city centre.

About Al Garhoud — GGICO Metro Station Area

Al Garhoud is an established residential and commercial neighbourhood on the eastern bank of Dubai Creek, sandwiched between Dubai International Airport and the Garhoud Bridge crossing. It is one of the older planned suburbs in this part of the city, with a mix of villas, mid-rise apartment blocks, and commercial towers. Airport Road (E11) bisects the area and is lined with hotels, car dealerships, and service businesses that reflect the neighbourhood's role as a transition zone between the airport and central Deira.

The metro near hamarain centre reference is accurate — Hamarain Centre is a mid-range shopping mall on Airport Road near the station, popular with local residents and budget-conscious shoppers. Wafi Mall, the Egyptian-themed luxury retail complex, sits adjacent and provides a more upscale alternative with its distinctive pyramid skylights and large-format anchors. The Grand Hyatt Dubai hotel complex occupies a significant footprint in the area and generates substantial foot traffic from its 13 restaurants and multiple pools.

Practical tips: For visitors arriving at Dubai International Airport, GGICO metro station is one stop from T1 (R14) and two stops from T3 (R13). If your hotel is in the Garhoud or Deira area, you can exit here rather than continuing to Union. Garhoud Park is pleasant in the cooler months (November–March) and has a Creek-side walking path with good views across the water toward Deira. The Dubai Tennis Championships take place each February at the Dubai Tennis Stadium 700 metres away — using the metro during event days avoids the heavy traffic that builds around the venue.
